During computer class, students learn about internet safety and how to be good digital citizens. They also regularly practice proper keyboarding skills, learn the basics of Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Sway, etc.), and use technology to create original projects in Pixie, our creativity software. Kindergarten students learn proper mouse skills before moving into basic keyboarding midway through the year. All students K-5 learn the basics of computer coding during the Hour of Code when we celebrate "Computer Science Education Week" in December.
About the Teacher
My name is Debby Taylor. I am the Technology teacher here and love working with all six grade levels in the computer lab! I have been part of the Mountain View family since 2012. My teaching career spans from preschool, as a teacher and an administrator, to middle school Language Arts. I hold degrees in Early Childhood Education and Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Science. Additionally, I have my gifted endorsement, hold a national STEM certification, am a gold level Cobb Distinguished STEM Educator, as well as a Microsoft Innovative Educator. I also enjoy the privilege of serving on code.org’s Hour of Code and CSEdWeek (Computer Science Education Week) Review Committee with a select group of educators from across the country. My husband and I have lived here in East Cobb for over thirty years. We have three awesome children who are products of the Cobb County school system! In my spare time I enjoy reading, going to the movies, and spending time with my family and friends.
